Investment Thesis
IXUS is the single-fund answer to international equity exposure. Where IEFA covers only developed markets ex-Canada, IXUS captures roughly 16% emerging markets alongside developed, and reaches down into small caps — over 4,100 holdings in total. For an investor who wants one international holding and no gaps, this is the more complete instrument, at the identical 0.07% fee. The trade-off is loss of control: you accept MSCI's emerging-market weighting rather than setting it yourself.
Who It's For
Investors who want complete non-US coverage in a single ticker without managing separate developed and emerging sleeves. IXUS suits simpler portfolios and anyone who would rather not rebalance between regional funds. Investors with strong views on emerging-market weighting should instead pair IEFA with a dedicated EM fund.
