Overview

The benchmark intermediate Treasury fund — pure US government bonds in the 7-10 year band, the classic portfolio ballast without TLT's violence.

Investment Thesis

IEF is the moderate path to Treasury duration: enough interest-rate sensitivity (about 7 years) to rally meaningfully when the economy stumbles and the Fed cuts, without the 17-year duration that makes TLT swing like an equity. Intermediate Treasuries are historically the single best diversifier of stock risk per unit of pain, which is why IEF sits at the core of most institutional balanced portfolios rather than its longer, louder sibling.

Who It's For

Investors building a genuine stock-hedge bond sleeve who found TLT's volatility self-defeating. The rational default for Treasury exposure in a balanced portfolio.
