Investment Thesis

Staples are the portfolio's shock absorber: demand for toothpaste doesn't fall in recessions, and the sector's dividends have compounded through every crisis since the fund launched in 2004. The flat trailing year is the price of safety in a momentum market — the sector's value shows up when everything else falls. VDC owns the full cap spectrum for less than a third of XLP's fee structure with more holdings.

Who It's For

Defensive allocators and income investors who want the recession-resistant corner of the market held cheaply. The classic pairing against high-beta tech exposure.
