Investment Thesis
SPLG exists to answer one question: why pay more for identical exposure? It tracks the same S&P 500 as SPY at roughly a fifth of the fee, and its low share price (about an eighth of SPY's) makes dollar-cost averaging easier for smaller accounts. SPY keeps the liquidity crown for traders, but for a long-term holder the fee difference compounds meaningfully over decades — SPLG has been taking core-holding market share from its older sibling every year since the fee cut.
Who It's For
Buy-and-hold investors who want S&P 500 exposure at the absolute minimum cost and don't need SPY's options market or intraday liquidity. The natural default for a first core holding and for regular monthly purchases.
