SCHX widens the large-cap net beyond the S&P 500's committee-vetted 500 to roughly 750 rules-selected names, at a price that matches the cheapest funds anywhere. Performance tracks the S&P 500 within noise. It exists for the same reason SPLG and VV do — the index wars drove core-holding fees to effectively zero, and Schwab's entry is as good as any of them.
